GlossaryGlossary of consulting, events and business development in Africa.
Eleven terms used across this site, defined plainly and without marketing jargon, to clarify the vocabulary of business development and B2B events in Africa.
- Market entry in Africa
- The set of steps that allow a foreign company to establish a legal and operational presence in an African country: entity creation, administrative procedures, office search, local hiring. See our Consulting & Market Entry offer.
- Market research
- A structured analysis of a target market (size, competition, regulatory framework, distribution channels) carried out before an investment or market-entry decision. At UDI Africa, a typical market study is delivered in three to eight weeks - see the dedicated page.
- Supplier sourcing
- The process of identifying, qualifying and auditing suppliers able to meet a company's quality, capacity and lead-time requirements.
- International expansion
- A strategy through which a company extends its activities beyond its home market, via exporting, market entry, local partnerships or direct investment.
- B2B event
- An event organised by a company for a professional audience (clients, partners, decision-makers) rather than the general public: product launch, seminar, convention, summit. See our Corporate Events offer.
- Learning expedition
- An immersive trip organised for a group (executives, teams, delegations) to meet on-the-ground actors (entrepreneurs, institutions, NGOs) around a given theme - here entrepreneurship and sustainability in Africa. Details on the Corporate Events page.
- International summit
- A large-scale event bringing together public and private decision-makers, often ministers and executives, around a strategic theme: requires dedicated funding, programming and logistics. Documented example: the RENEWPAC summit in Dakar.
- Event production
- The end-to-end delivery of an event by a provider who takes operational and sometimes financial responsibility for it, from fundraising to on-site execution - as opposed to a simple logistics service. See our Event Production offer.
- Africa business consulting
- Strategic and operational support for an organisation seeking to understand, enter or grow in one or more African markets.
- Maghreb region
- A North African region that includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania. UDI Africa is active mainly in Morocco, where it is based, and in Mauritania, where an entrepreneurship summit is in preparation.
- Investment in Africa
- The commitment of capital by a company or investor to a project, market entry or acquisition on the African continent, usually preceded by market research and a risk assessment.
